Jase
Barron - Youth Intern
Jason@calvin.org.nz
Jason has
attended Calvin all his life, ever since he was a little tot who came
along with his Granny and saw the benefit of church so decided that it
was a good idea to come along on his own. Since finishing school in
2006 Jason worked at Woolworths, part-time,
and then the Gore District Council, fulltime
for a year as a civil engineering cadet. Whilst doing one of his
courses as part of his cadetship he felt God speak to him about doing an
internship programme that Marty had talked to
him about years earlier. So
he quit his job and from there, as they say,
the rest is history.
Jason
started his internship here at the start of
2008 and is currently studying towards a Diploma in Youth and Community
Studies through Praxis. He
is loving it and recommends this course to anyone who is even remotely
interested in youth. Jason is passionate about seeing young people
develop in all areas of their lives and develop a personal relationship
with Jesus Christ and to see them grow into strong men/women of God
In his spare
time he likes not to make phone calls (the telephone is a scary thing),
playing video games on his laptop (Vista, the closet thing you’ll get to
perfection in this world), chillaxing, hanging at the beach and of
course digging a hole in Steve’s backyard. |

Paul Loveday - Associate Pastor
Leader of
the Serving and Evangelism Departments plus Co-Leader of Children & Families
ministries
Paul@calvin.org.nz
Paul
has lived the concept that most people of his age (which corresponds to
being born in the mid 1950’s) will often experience a number of career
changes in their work lives. For him personally these have ranged from
building site management, partnership in a family cake shop, missionary
service in Pakistan, and latterly as a Presbyterian Church minister.
He
was ordained as a minister while living in Pakistan and served at Holy
Trinity Cathedral in Karachi from 1993 to 1996. Upon returning to New
Zealand he has pastored at Knox St Columba, Lower Hutt from 1998 to 2001, St
David’s in Richmond, Nelson from 2002 to 2006, and at Calvin since February
2007.
Paul
has a passion to see people come to know Jesus and experience God’s
transforming love in every area of their lives. In his ministry this is
often expressed in two main areas. Firstly in community outreach
initiatives where the Gospel of Jesus Christ is demonstrated through
practical acts of kindness and the sharing of faith stories and teaching
that point to Jesus; and secondly, through prayer ministry where people
receive healing in the power of the Holy Spirit (with more emphasis on
spiritual and emotional healing).
His
interest in overseas mission continues, but more in the capacity of short
term trips. Nowadays his overseas mission interest is focusing on India.
Equipping local pastors in prayer ministry is behind his involvement there.
Paul
is married to Michelle, who is a counsellor in private practice in both Gore
and Invercargill. She too has a keen sense of involvement in short-term
mission trips which have a healing emphasis, and has shared in leadership
responsibilities on the mission trips to India. They have three adult
children (all married) and six grandchildren:
- Johanna and Roger
live in Wainuiomata, as do Lucy, Andrew, Katharine, and Miriam, (Samuel
continues to grow up in the presence of the Lord);
- Jenny and Simon live
in Palmerston North; and
- Ben and Sarah are in
Auckland. Their son Elliot was born in December 2007.
He
likes to go trout fishing (not knowing that Gore is the brown trout fishing
capital of the world until taking up the call to Calvin
J),
playing a little bit of golf, and going on bush walks.

Marty has been
serving at Calvin as the full time youth pastor for over 4 years. Previously he
had done a number of jobs including truck driving, courier driver, building
labourer, office administrator and sound technician.
Marty has a passion
to see the lives of young people changed and impacted though the message of
Jesus Christ, and believes there is no greater decision anyone can make than to
decide to follow Jesus. He believes that if young people can just catch hold of
the life they can have in Christ, then their world and the world of those around
them can be changed forever.
He is married to the
beautiful Stephanie, who works for Synod of Otago/Southland. When Marty is not
at church he can be found watching movies on his beloved Mac, working in the
