Pastor - Rev. Ken Williams

Pastoral care, developing internal community, reaching into wider community, community ministries, full time. You can email Ken on ken@calvin.org.nz

Having grown up in Wanganui, Ken then trained as a Primary School teacher with a focus in outdoor education. He spent several years working in camping in Indiana, USA where he met his wife Jenny, who has a degree in Social Work.

He is passionate about seeing people growing in faith and knowing Jesus Christ.  Both Ken and Jenny see ‘family’ as a strong image of the church, and believe it is in healthy churches that people come to maturity.  Ken’s has been at Calvin since December 2010 and his major responsibilities at Calvin are Pastoral Care, building community within Calvin and making bridges with the wider community.

An ordained Presbyterian minister, Ken has previously served in ministry in the Ruawai Cooperating Parish, Northland (1997–2000), the Wairau Presbyterian Parish in Marlborough (2000-2009) and the Talua Ministry Training Centre, Vanuatu (2009-2010). Ken is a keen sports fan and enjoys walking and tramping.

Ken and Jenny have six children Matthew, Beth, Kaye, Peter, Hope and Caleb – ranging in age from 22 down to 8 years.

Youth ministry, full time

I’m a born and bred local lad and love working with young people both at Calvin and through some of the local schools.  When I’m not at work I like to kick back and watch some sport, play video games and generally hang out.  I’ve been attending Calvin Community Church since I was a wee pup and thoroughly enjoy serving the church that I grew up in.

I love seeing youth coming into relationship with God and journeying with them through that, being able to share my experience as a Christian with them. I strongly believe that the young people in the church have a lot to offer to the whole congregation and the community around them.  Often young people are seen as the future generation of the church.  I don’t see that to be true.  I see them to be the current generation of the church, (just like all generations are) with a spring in their step and a willingness to give things a go.

Youth Worker - Melissa Martin

Hello everyone,

My husband Christopher and I live at Wairuna on a sheep, beef and cropping farm where Chris works. We have been married for five years. We moved here from Alexandra where I was a youth worker for three years. I have spent the last 18 months working in Balclutha at BP and as a After School Care Worker. I enjoy horse riding, camping, hunting, shopping and meeting with friends. I am excited about working alongside the young people here at Calvin and in Gore. I want to be able to be able to show Christ’s love and His desire for everyone to reach their full potential in His plan. In doing so I want to help youth to mature in their faith and to live a life that reflects His glory to others. It is so awesome to be a part of Calvin Church and I look forward to meeting you all.

Blessings,

Melissa
