Campfire Statement

We want to be a church that is focussed on Jesus and prayerfully seeking the leading of the Holy Spirit.

We want to be a church that is both a place for the stable and unstable. That we will be stable enough, that we will be willing to take risks yet feeling uncomfortable with where we are. We have no choice but to move ahead.

Calvin will be both a sanctuary for those who need shelter and also well connected with those outside.

We long to be a community that is stronger in prayer and contemplation, and hungry for the Word of God. We hope to see more salvations and lives transformed.

For us to continue to be relevant we will engage with the next generation and provide a variety of intergenerational opportunities and empower people to use their gifts.

In order for these things to happen we will be strategic, honest and critically reflective in our planning.

I have adapted the first four verses of Isaiah 61. I personally believe this is a word for us at this point in time.

61 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
    instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
    instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
    a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendour.

They will rebuild the ancient ruins
    and restore the places long devastated;
they will renew the ruined cities
that have been devastated for generations.
